I didn't stumble into a dream career.
I built one.
I was raised in post-Soviet Russia where stability meant everything. Moved to Canada for business school, where they told us only the top 1% got into consulting. I wanted in — and got rejected by every firm. PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, McKinsey, Accenture. Not a single offer.

So I fell into a CPA role instead. Learned to present. Learned to network. Eventually made it to final rounds at Deloitte Consulting — where the partner told me something that changed everything: "I don't believe you actually want to work in consulting." He was right. I'd been chasing a career someone else handed me.
That's when I started designing my own. I built a prototype of the role I actually wanted, tested it with real people in real jobs, and landed a role that didn't even exist until I designed it. A year in, I learned something else — a toxic workplace can break you, no matter how dreamy the role. So I left without a plan, rebuilt, and pivoted into recruitment sales, where I led hiring for 100s of mid-senior roles at top employers.

That's when I saw the full picture. How $150K+ offers are really made. Who actually gets chosen, and who doesn't. And why so many brilliant women keep getting passed over — not because they aren't qualified, but because no one ever taught them the skill of senior job search.
